WELCOME TO FILM SPRING OPEN is an interactive project that allows the audience to meet various people from the Film Spring Open universe and/or discover some of their creations. The idea is to produce short and entertaining video capsules, each a few minutes long, which may themselves be interactive — in the form of interviews, mini-reports or documentaries, tutorials, fiction pieces, or even mockumentaries. 2022 marked the beginning of this project, which can grow each year with the addition of new capsules on a freely accessible website.

For the 2026 edition, we aim to explore the compatibility between Artificial Intelligence and Ecology. The audiovisual industry is facing an unprecedented dual transition: a technological one, driven by the rapid rise of generative AI, and an environmental one, with the absolute necessity to reduce the carbon footprint of film shoots and computing (Green IT).
Too often, these two challenges are presented as contradictory, with AI being criticized for its high energy consumption. The ambition of this project in Kraków is to prove the opposite by creating an Environmental Sandbox at the heart of the workshop: learning how to design, measure, and deploy eco-responsible AI workflows.
The goal is to combine French expertise in eco-designed methodologies (developed by FRAME) with the technological power and know-how of the Film Spring Open workshop team to lay the foundations for the cinema of tomorrow.
The project will unfold immersively over the 10 days of the workshops in Kraków, structured around practical cases and concrete deliverables:
Dedicated Working Group and Symposium (« Green AI »)
Co-facilitation of an interdisciplinary experimentation hub bringing together young creators, editors, sound engineers, and visual effects (VFX) specialists. The challenge will be to test, in real conditions, digital sobriety protocols: optimizing data flows in the cloud, selecting the least energy-intensive AI models for rendering, and using specific environmental footprint calculators.
The Cinébus as an Eco-Production Laboratory
All post-production phases—AI integration, color grading, and sound design—will be centralized on board the Cinébus. This mobile, photovoltaic-powered studio will serve as a unique case study in Europe to demonstrate the viability of a green, profitable, and energy-independent production model.
Eco-Set Design and 3D Printing (subject to securing pending funding)
The ecological transition will also extend to the film set. The project includes the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge accessories and technical effect parts using recycled objects and 3D printing with exclusively biodegradable PLA filament (cornstarch-based), modeled and optimized in advance by AI to minimize raw material waste. If funding is secured, the workshop will be led by Laurent Sola, a specialist in eco-responsible 3D printing.
The work carried out in Kraków will not stop at the workshop’s doors. Its purpose is to create transferable and sustainable standards:
- Two Pilot Audiovisual Productions: Concrete study films combining innovative storytelling, AI tool integration, and eco-production protocols.
- Bilingual Best Practice Guides (French/Polish): Open-access (Open Educational Resources) technical documentation clearly explaining the least energy-intensive « Green AI » workflows for the industry.
- Academic Sustainability: These resources and training modules, tested in Poland, will be directly integrated into the curricula of our partner institutions in France (GRETA-CFA Public Audiovisual BTS, Perpignan Via Domitia University) and will enrich future sessions of the FRAME Ecological Film Residency in Cabestany.
To oversee this laboratory of excellence, a parity delegation of 8 qualified professionals and trainers from Film Spring Open France will be sent to Kraków, bringing together the key skills required:
Capture and Communication: Comprehensive pedagogical documentation of the initiative and European promotion of the results.
Artistic and Pedagogical Direction: Coordination of methodologies and academic research.
Technical Engineering and AI Trainers: Architecture of digital workflows and rendering stations.
Eco-Responsible Production Management: Application of eco-friendly practices and on-site carbon impact monitoring.
Eco-Set Design: Specialists in PLA 3D printing and recycling.
